5. Hi guys, very interested in the story of your car - very underestimated machines!
Whilst not racing, I have been quietly impoving my finnie to a fast road spec. Have increased from 98 to 110hp @ rear wheels (145kph) on original carbs and no head work - largely achieved by Pertronix electronic ign conversion, carb rebuild, changing jets, creating a cold air intake and mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust. HUGE difference! Rebuilt rear end and retained standard bushings and brakes. Am about to fit Spax adjustable shocks and considering switching back to 13" steels from the 14" alloys for lower stance and possibly quicker acceleration.

other ideas I have heard are below:
install the 300SEL 6.3 spacers between the body mount bush and the chassis.
Use either W110 200 (gas) front springs or get new lower springs made. This lowers the cars roll center and enables the car to corner flatter and keep the front tyres grip higher.
Use a 280SE 3.5 Front roll bar. Get the LSD diff center from a W112 300SE. The LSD diffs typically have a plate on the rear of the housing saying "sperrdiferential . Use special oil" You wont want to use the whole W112 diff ,just the diff head.

9. I am very impressed with your finny racer and your achievements. I am busy restoring a 1966 w110 short nose round light 230. I am very keen to replace my rear linkage rubber bush with the teflon type like you did on your car. Where can i get this made up. I would appreciate your input. Keep up the great work.

I own a 1976 280 E , original condition , 156000kms on the clock - bought and restored 1999 or thereabouts - use it on veteran car club rallies in PE and also regularly to go shopping or for joy rides - glad I own it. Was for sale when wife and I relocated to PE from EL but niot anymore - too fond of it.
