David L. Harris, born abt. 1850 in New York, arrived in Hamilton County, Indiana sometime in the 1850s. He was taken in by William E. Owen and Nancy Sturdivant Owen. He is found on the 1860 and 1870 census with them. |
In Hamilton County, Indiana, he married:
1) Margaret Elizabeth Ann Owen, daughter of John R. Owen and Laura Ann O'Neal
2) Emily Myers
3) Kissia Kerr
In Surry County, North Carolina, he married:
1) Hettie Eveline Owen, daughter of Jesse Owen and Mary Polly Putina Sullivan (Hettie was most likely the 1st cousin of David's first wife, Margaret)
In Indiana, he was the father of Mary Victoria Harris Bolen and Pearl Harris Shumack. After marrying Hettie Eveline Owen in NC, their first child was born in Indiana. Subsequently they moved and settled in Kentucky, raising several children there.

My grandmother didn't talk much about her trip on the orphan train to Logansport, IN. We think around 1910-1912. She Jeanette Catherine and her brother Edward Knowles ( who was a year older than her) were on the train together, with Julia Lang who was 3 at that time.
